Are Supplements Natural?
Daily supplements have become commonplace to promote health and well-being. How natural are they?

Taking daily supplements is something that people do to improve their health and wellbeing. They can provide additional nutrients that you’re not getting from your natural diet and they can lead to a healthier lifestyle. However, it can be difficult to determine whether they are natural or if they are synthetic.

How Natural Are Supplements?

The short answer - yes and no. There are plenty of natural supplements on the market but there are also synthetic ones. What’s the difference? Great question

Natural supplements
Natural supplements are 100% plant-based and will say so on their labels. These have no artificial materials in them and are derived completely from plants.

Synthetic supplements
These supplements are made in factories with synthetic, or man-made materials.

To determine if the supplement you’re interested in taking is natural, you’ll have to look at the label or consult a doctor first.

Natural Supplements In The Body

Not sure what kinds of natural supplements you’d like to take? No problem. There are plenty of natural supplements on the market, some of which are so natural they’re found in our bodies. Some common natural supplements you can take that are found in the body include:

Melatonin

Melatonin is a very popular natural supplement. If you don’t know what melatonin is, it is a hormone in the human body responsible for regulating sleep cycles. The human body produces it naturally and it is usually released around bedtime, to help you fall asleep and stay asleep.

If you’re struggling to sleep at night, though, then that means your melatonin levels are off. Taking a melatonin supplement can help with that. It will regulate the hormone levels in your body and help you reset your sleep cycle so you can get some rest.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is another natural supplement found in the human body. It is a substance responsible for absorbing other nutrients. These include calcium, magnesium, phosphate, etc. It’s also widely known to be connected to mood and happiness.

When your vitamin D levels are low, you may feel lethargic and depressed. If that’s the case for you, you can get your Vitamin D levels back up by taking a natural supplement. You can also restore vitamin D levels by getting some sunshine. The sun’s rays naturally produce Vitamin D and if you spend some time outside, your skin will absorb it into the body.

Calcium

Calcium is a mineral that is necessary for the human body to function properly. It makes sure blood clots, the heartbeats, and muscles contract normally. Calcium is most commonly found in teeth and bones and when it’s low your health can take a drastic turn for the worse.

This is why many people take daily vitamins and supplements with calcium in them. They keep calcium levels high and healthy so the body works properly.

Iron

Iron is also a mineral that is vital to human functionality. It carries oxygen throughout the body and makes sure everything is functioning as it should. When iron levels are low, you may feel lethargic, dizzy, or even sick.

Iron levels are typically managed by diet (red meats are a great source!) but if you have medical conditions like anemia, taking an iron supplement can help you keep iron levels high.

Magnesium

Lastly, magnesium is a mineral that is responsible for many processes in the body including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, and more. When magnesium levels are low, you may feel nauseous, dizzy, or just overall unwell.

Most people get their daily magnesium from diet but if that’s not enough, then supplements can help.
