FAQ

Typically a 2 oz. bottle (if taking 1/4 tsp. 3 times a day) will last 2 weeks.

A 4 oz. bottle will last 4 weeks.

Products should be stored in the amber bottles they come in and not exposed to sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary.

Formulas that contain alcohol will last 3 years. Formulas that do not contain alcohol will last 2 years.
After that, potency will decrease. We do not suggest using the product after expiration.

As long as the products you’re using have 3 or less herbs in common, there shouldn’t be a problem taking them together.  If the products you’re taking have 3 or more herbs in common, we suggest cutting the dose of one of the formulas in half, or leaving two hours in between the doses of those formulas. We suggest the two hour break or half-dose so your body is less likely to build up an immunity to those herbs.

The use of supplements during this sensitive time in a woman's life depends on both the supplement and the woman. We are all unique and all have different sensitivities.

For example, some women are able to use Red Raspberry leaf the entire duration of their pregnancy, while other women will start cramping and spotting if they try taking it. Some herbs may cause a miscarriage (like Goldenseal) while others may help ease a mom's upset stomach (like ginger or peppermint. It is always best to check with your healthcare provider before using supplements while pregnant or nursing.

Yes! Liquids are not time-released - when you take them they go to work right away, so being able to take them 3 times daily ensures you are supporting your body regularly throughout the day. Only doing that once or twice may not offer the same level of support. If you are worried you cannot take the product to work/school with you, try taking it before you leave the house, when you get back home, and before bed.

Short-term use: In general, for best results, use MMH products for 3-6 months. After 6 months of continued usage we suggest taking a 1 month break from the herbs as your body may need an adjustment period and you want to avoid building up an immunity to the herbs.

Long-term use: If you are taking MMH products long-term, follow a 6 days on 1 day off cycle to avoid building up an immunity to those herbs (unless otherwise specified by a MMH Herbal Care Specialist or your healthcare provider).

Our extracts and formulas contain less than 10% alcohol. The only exception to this is products containing green black walnut Hull. In order to fully extract the green black walnuts, up to 50% organic grain alcohol is used.

Not all formulas and extracts contain alcohol (refer to ingredients list and label).

Some of the beneficial properties we want to pull out of the plant do not respond without the use of some alcohol. We use a very minimal amount and only when necessary to get these constituents into the final liquid extract.

Typically you will see alcohol on barks and roots, but most flowers will not have alcohol used in the extract. We do state on the label of each product if alcohol was used or not.

Place the bottle of formula/extract in a simmering pan of water with the lid off of the bottle for 10-15 minutes.

MMH formulas are not considered organic. Many extracts/formulas contain organic herbs, however the formulas are not organic due to the vegetable glycerin classification. The alcohol is organic and we use all organic herbs, unless they are not available.

As with all things in nature, no two harvests produce exactly the same result. Different batches of bulk herbs can produce differently colored extracts. We are always happy to double check things if you have any concerns, just give us a call with the Lot Number on the bottle and what your concern in is and we'll be happy to speak with you and determine if further research is needed.

Are the formulas and extracts gluten-free?

Oatstraw is the only herb MMH uses that is not considered gluten-free. We have tested it for gluten and it has tested negative, however, someone with an extreme sensitivity to gluten may still have a reaction. Herbal Calcium, LiverGlow, Femme Defense, Femme Defense II, Weight Control Formula II, Berry Calm, and Everyday Joint & Muscle all have Oatstraw herb.

The alcohol and glycerin are gluten-free (the glycerin we use is made from Palm Hearts).

The only MMH product that contains soy is the Herbal Vita-Mom prenatal vitamins.

Herbal Calcium should not be taken with the Herbal Iron, as they do compete for absorption in the body. We suggest taking the Herbal Iron in the morning and the Herbal Calcium at night, or giving at least a two hour break between each formula.

Hormone Balance and Tone & Cleanse - alternate the two every two weeks, starting on the Hormone Balance formula on the first day of your cycle.

Hormone Balance/Tone & Cleanse and Fruitful Vine - Fruitful Vine is intended to be used after using Hormone Balance and Tone & Cleanse.

Hormone Balance and Progesta-Yam - both are hormonal products and it’s best to stick with one hormonal product at a time, unless specified otherwise by your doctor.

Hormone Balance and Femme Defense (regular or mommy safe) since the Hormone Balance formula is IN the Femme Defense it is not necessary to take.

Gentle Birth and Herbal Vita-Mom or Red Raspberry Extracts/Teas - Red Raspberry is a blood thinner and may cause excessive bleeding during childbirth when taken in increased doses.

Gentle Birth and Evening Primrose Oil INTERNALLY - unless specified otherwise by your healthcare provider or midwife. Evening primrose taken internally may increase bleeding recovery time after labor.

*This list does not include all the products that cannot be taken together-but it includes the most commonly asked ones we get.

Speaking with your health care provider first and providing them a list of ingredients for the products you are interested in, will help to avoid any complications with medication or sensitivities. That being said, overall this will vary per product and prescription. The best course of action is to have a conversation with your family health care provider to find out what is going to work best for you!

In general, more than one is too many! If you cleanse the body too quickly you may experience side effects known as the herxheimer reaction. Basically, you feel yucky up to a point of feeling like you have the flu. It’s best to do one cleanse at a time and take at least a two week break in between cleanses. There is an exception to this - the Whole Body and Colon cleanse and the Para-Rid or ClarkFX may be done at the same time.

The best way to know where to start would be to get an official diagnosis from your healthcare provider. From here, we can help you in product selection for what cleanse/product may be the most beneficial for you! We do suggest starting with the cleanse you feel is most important, or whichever part of your body you feel needs to be prioritized.

We do not test each batch of Herbal Iron for its exact iron content. While the herbs that we use in this formula are considered excellent plant-based sources of iron, the real effectiveness of this product lies in its ability to help your body absorb the iron that you are consuming in your daily diet.

Ingredients for all products can be found in our catalog, on the products themselves, on the product page on our website, or by contacting us via phone, email, or mail.

Proposition 65 or The Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 is a law where businesses are required to warn California consumers that the materials that make up their products contain substances or chemicals on California’s Proposition-65 chemical list which are known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Under this law, all businesses are required to place a warning label on any product sold within California if it exceeds the perceived safety levels the state has set for various elements. California’s OEHHA website reiterates that a “Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean a product is in violation of any product-safety standards or requirements.”

No chemicals are ever used to make MMH products, and no chemicals are found within our raw materials. However, the State of California defines lead, which is a mineral that can naturally occur in certain soils, as a chemical so by law we are bound to provide the Prop 65 warning label.

MMH evaluates all of the ingredients in our products for both safety and efficacy. This includes, among other things, testing for various elements that fall under the Cal Prop 65 law. California, through Cal Prop 65, has indicated the safe level for lead is 0.5 mcg/day; by comparison, the USP (United States Pharmacopeia) limit for safe daily consumption is not more than 5 mcg/day.

Heavy metals like lead can naturally be found directly in certain soils and then transferred into plants, even when the herbs are grown in a Certified Organic environment.

For example: a cup of organic carrots may contain up to 12 mcg of naturally occurring lead.

The amount of lead found in any MMH product with a Cal Prop 65 label falls within the USP guidelines for daily lead intake.
